It can also be seen as a very real journey through the Jungian philosophy. First, Dorothy must travel through an unreal or unconscious landscape in an attempt to return to her normal conscious state. The entire time in Oz is a dream sequence in the film, so Dorothy is literally exploring her unconscious mind from the moment she is hit on the head and goes to sleep. Her return home (waking up) is a return to her conscious self. "
