"In order that communities and the individual members, groups or sectors within the community feel that they 'own' the organization in some way, whether through their role, or through a vote or representation by another community group or member there must be interaction and collaboration between the organization's governance and service delivery. This will require outreach to the community on the part of the organization and since healthcare research has conclusively shown that involvement of family and neighbors within the community are critical factors in after-care delivery these goals must necessarily be built into the organizational structure in order for true success of the organization be assured. Probably the most important factor in the delivery of healthcare to the patient-base which characterizes the not-for-profit organization is to assign 'value' to all involved and linked organizations, institutions, and each individual. Many times delivery of not-for-profit services in an environment that has been void of these services or on the receiving end of poorly-delivered services and due to the historical and experiential view of those who these services are geared toward assisting preconceived views of the organization precedes service in the community or area the not-for-profit is located therefore the employees and providers of the organization must be trained and educated in the most effective methods in breaching this chasm and gaining both the trust and respect of the community."
