"Monopoly is not only confined to a single region or country, but can exist in a global scale. Various factors such as government regulation, economies of scale, and control of scarce inputs can create or abolish a monopoly. Globalization affects monopoly by influencing either one of these factors. For example, improved economic relations between Russia and US have materially diminished the economic importance of Arab oil producers. This in turn affected the global monopoly power of OPEC and its control of the oil industry."
