"In a business environment that is becoming increasingly competitive, focusing on the core competency becomes critical to the organization's success. It is noted that an organization cannot afford to be static, it must always be improving so that it keeps up with the competition. This requires that an organization provide better products for its customers. Siropolis (80) notes that marketing research is critical to an organization's success. This means continually finding out what customers want and taking action to provide it. This can be best achieved by being focused. Firstly, the company must know its own products. Secondly, they must know their customers. Without this focus on the core competence a company may improve in ways that do not benefit their customers."
