Paper Summary:
This paper examines why the South (the Confederate States of America) was defeated in the American Civil War. The paper discusses the history of the conflict and some of the events of the war. It describes the actions of the North and the South and looks at some of the main reasons why it is thought that the South lost this great battle.
From the Paper:
"Also, I feel that the South did not prepare enough for economic depression. For example, they did not make use of their main resource (cotton). After all, the union blockade did not happen for several months, within this time, they could have exported their cotton harvest and been reaping the financial benefits; financial benefits which could have provided a secure base for their war effort. Davis, while he was a great leader, was no politician compared to Lincoln. And this contributed to their onward struggle into defeat."
