Abstract
This paper presents an analysis of Paul's character in Willa Cather's "Paul's Case" by focusing on three of his attributes: 1) his tendency to be very self-oriented and separated from the others around him 2) his over-concern for all things that glitter and 3) his damaged psyche.
From the Paper
"In Willa Cather's story "Paul's Case", the character Paul embodied the Calvinist household in which he was raised in. Paul is a very self-oriented and introverted boy whose every action is designed and calculated to prevent others from seeing the real him. Paul is also a person who is overly concerned with money, wealth, and glamor; all which he believes will take him to the top and get him off Cordelia Street, which he despises with a passion. Paul is also under all of his mental armor, is scared, scarred and mentally damaged by his father and by his teachers so much that he can no longer go on living."

Abstract
This is a humorous essay that describes a day of mowing the lawn using the five senses (smell, taste, touch, sight, and sound) required when writing a descriptive essay.
From the Paper
"I woke up this morning in dread knowing that today was the day I had to cut the grass in my back yard. Slowly, I dragged myself out of bed. I reached over to grab my worn sneakers. I was not looking forward to this day. I always dread having to mow the lawn in the hot Texas sun. I looked over to the clock. The steady red light illuminated the numbers "7:10." Seven o'clock in the morning. I knew that by now the temperature outside was 75 degrees if I was lucky since most of the time it is 80 degrees as soon as the sun comes up."

Abstract
The writer presents the advantages of establishing a firm study routine for students when managing the load of school work and explains that this forms excellent habits for later life. The paper also gives practical advice for planning a schedule to assist in time management.
From the Paper
"To prevent wasting time, we must be able to set a well-defined goal, organize around priorities, and keep on track. One of the primary benefits of a time management program for studying is that it eliminates (or at least reduces) procrastination and a haphazard approach to school work, two characteristics that are typical of many students. Establishing a firm study routine has numerous advantages for individuals. First, a study routine keeps time from slipping away. Next, a study routine takes advantage of the fact that once a habit or routine is formed, it has a momentum of its own."

Abstract
This paper looks at how difficult it was for the Romans to accept the Christian religion and how they gradually tried to suppress it and how Christianity was still able to spread throughout the world. It includes specific historical dates, events, places and people such as Alexander the Great, the Jewish states, persecutions during Jesus' ministry, Herod the Great and Pontius Pilate, and Nero, the emperor of Rome trying to rid the empire of Christianity. The paper concludes by talking about Constantine and how he proclaimed the Edict Toleration.
From the Paper
"The Christian religion was hard for the Romans to accept at first. A historical person had conquered death and promised a blessed afterlife to all who believed in him. The new faith demanded that every believer practice love and justice in new communities made up of Jew and Greek, slave and free, male and female, rich and poor, educated and ignorant. Christians had no temples or other holy places, no priests, no ordinary sacrifices, no oracles, or any visible gods. They had no initiations; they made no pilgrimages, did not practice divination, would not venerate the emperor, and challenged the final authority of the father (or oldest male) in family life. Christians were accused of being atheists who undermined traditional society."

The writer begins by describing the day when she was told of her father's death and her reaction to the news. After a post-mortem took place we found it he had died as his arteries to his heart were blocked, stopping the blood flowing to his heart. My Gran in particularly was devastated, her world was ripped apart. Her brother Robert died when he was 10 and her other brother Billy had passed away the previous year after he too also lost his life battling with cancer. Through all those tough times my papa had stood by her and helped her through what she seen as a black tunnel with no ending. Abstract
In this story, Bec brings her friend Liz a gift from her travels to Thailand. As soon as Liz gets the present, she seems to fall into an unfortunate period of bad luck. The suspenseful story ends with an unexpected twist.
From the Paper
"I have always wanted to travel, so when I was offered a work experience placement in Thailand (somewhere I had fancied going since watching The Beach), I grabbed it with both hands. I suppose now is a good time to introduce myself (listening to 'I' talking and not knowing who 'I' is would probably be very irritating for you). My name is Rebecca (well that's what I was christened as), but most people call me Bec. I reached the grand old age of 20 last week (spent my birthday on the beach, jealous?). For the past two months I have been working as a holiday representative (that's rep to you and me) at The Sea Breeze Hotel here in Phuket but today is my last day, I fly back to London tomorrow night to start a new term at university. I am studying for a Leisure and Tourism degree and would eventually like to run my own hotel. I bet I'm sounding really independent but I will let you into a little secret, I'm really homesick and I miss my best mate Liz, and although Thailand's beautiful, I can't wait to be home. It's Liz's birthday next week, so tomorrow I'm going to find her the best present ever!"

From the Paper
"My reason for questioning reality once more was the release of the Wachowski Brothers film The Matrix. This science fiction film presents the idea that the world around us is an illusion. What we perceive to be reality is in fact a computer simulation (called The Matrix) which is inputted directly into our brains making us believe that we are living normal lives when in fact our inert bodies are providing heat to power the machines which, after years of human service became intelligent enough to have taken over the world."

From the Paper
"Aside from his comment on the dependence mankind now has on time, Simmel's comment has a number of significant points. Firstly, this quote acknowledges the fact that it is now possible for time to go wrong in different ways. The sundial may be inexact but it is always right. The mechanical watch is capable of slowing down, or speeding up time for the wearer and as such, forms a limitation on the commodity of time. This nature of separate layers of time is acknowledged again in this quotation. The mechanical simulation of time can be 'wrong' and Simmel acknowledges that this error will take up a period of 'natural' time to be sorted out. In other words, there will be a period when time on the clock becomes worthless while the natural is consulted and the simulation is readjusted. "
